About Moira

I am an artist living in the Perth hills, Western Australia.

Ladies at work

A little bit late posting these pics of a sunny Sunday reclaiming the veggie patch from the weeds.  I had help from the earth works crew, the 2 youngsters leaping from one raised bed to another, the 2 older ones sticking to the ground floor making the edges neat.

Downloadable bookplates

A little while ago I did this picture for the Better Beginnings Bookplate Project.  It is now up on their website for all to print, cut out and glue into books.

I was really chuffed to be asked to participate and even more chuffed when I saw who else had – Mr Tan Oscar Man (OMG my work is on the same page as his!!!!) among some famous others… so go and have a look for yourself and print, cut and paste away :0)

The egg and the world of bearding

Very eggcited to find this deformed knobbly chap in the henhouse this morning.  The first egg of either Hanky or Doily, who, by the way, have decided that I am a fan of all things feathered  and have become much friendlier towards me in the last week.  On the subject of all things feathered I am sad to say that I think old Father Ted magpie has passed away.  He hasn’t been for tea over a week now.  Very sad.  The odd thing is that Blossom (my original baby pie) bought the rest of her family to visit yesterday, including a Ted looky- likey.  They are all very tame which I suspect is due to Irish Nanna down the road, who’s enormous gum tree they live in.  Irish Nanna used to enjoy it when our turkey, Stephen, escaped and went to her place. We no longer have Stephen, who I was trying to save from Christmas, but that is a whole other story. Anyway, has anyone seen Whisker Wars, Tuesday 9.00 pm on ABC2?  My new favourite show.

There’s a parrot in the ball!

We were very pleased to spot this twenty-eight parrot in the feeding ball yesterday.  Made for the little birds, who sadly aren’t interested in it, it had just hung unused (but looking good), until now.  The parrot clearly felt very safe in there as it carried on munching away whilst the cat passed underneath it. And I think I need to mow the grass. But with rain forecast for the next week I think I will manage to avoid that nasty task for yet another weekend.

A week made of …

New camera batteries.

A walk with big hills.

Dog hair.

Hand feeding Mr Shrill, one of my lark visitors. Old Father Ted, the magpie, didn’t like it. Still no headway with befriending Hanky and Doily :0(

And a cold snap resulting in lilac soup due to the use of purple carrots, not blue string a la Bridget Jones.

Show time

Yesterday I set up my little display in the Perth Town Hall. I am so pleased to be a part of it, it is a great exhibition with so many lovely old Coolgardie Safes and interesting art works.  You can go to the National Trust’s website to see all the heritage happenings over the next month.
